About the Book
This book, prepared by Texas criminal justice educators, is expressly designed for use in basic peace officer training academies and college or university law enforcement or criminal justice courses in the state of Texas. The authors' intent in writing this text was to help the reader prepare for the Basic Peace Officer Licensing Examination. The contents have been drawn from a wide range of sources and are concisely presented in nontechnical language. Although there are many different and acceptable ways in which to enforce the law and to carry out the duties of a law enforcement officer, those covered in this book reflect the approaches more commonly accepted in modern American police work.
The text materials have been enhanced to expand on the topics important to the beginning and in-service peace officer. Questions for self-examination for each chapter, along with answer keys, are provided with a compact disk included with the book. However, only through diligent study can the student acquire specific knowledge of the subjects presented.
The format of this book makes it a valuable resource for reference, for review of some of the main concerns in police work, for use in police academies, as a college or university text, and for law enforcement officers' independent study.
